HEART POTATO — ATARI EDITION (2026)
A new native Atari BASIC adaptation inspired by heartpotato.com.
Original game: heartpotato.com by DEVOABBA. This edition is an independent adaptation.

Choose E for Easy or H for Hard. Fire also starts Easy.
A shuffled standard deck has 52 cards: 13 hearts and 39 safe cards.
Each face-down position keeps the same card throughout the run.
Use arrow keys/joystick to choose a card. Space/fire or Return reveals it.
H = hearts, C = clubs, D = diamonds, S = spades; T means ten.
A safe card gives one point. Revealed cards cannot score twice.
Easy: the first heart ends the run, and you keep the points.
Hard: B banks the current points and ends the run. A heart before banking
loses all points in that run. Revealing all 39 safe cards banks automatically.
The odds show the chance that the next unrevealed card is safe.
Best and average scores are separate for each mode and last for the session.
The site's save/resume feature preserves them; a power cycle clears them.
After a run, N or fire plays again; M returns to mode selection.

The game runs on the emulated 6502 with native Atari display and POKEY sound.
This is a 2026 adaptation, not a recovered vintage commercial release.
It includes the main card game, not online leaderboards or daily challenges.

Standalone Atari use: boot the disk with BASIC enabled, then type:
RUN "D:HEART.BAS"
The editable source is HEART.LST on disk and programs/heart-potato.bas in
our source archive. ENTER "D:HEART.LST" then RUN also starts the game.
